How to Decode and Rip DVDs on Windows

By Tuan Do

There is nothing new about convenience trumps quality, so we’re not surprised when Blu-rays and DVDs are in a tough period competing with video streaming services like Netflix. However, it doesn’t mean that the DVD market is dying anytime soon.

Many people are still buying DVDs because they can watch new movies sooner and don’t have to rely on an inconsistent Internet connection. We don’t have problems with DVDs most of the time but if you want to store those DVDs or you have region code restrictions, you will need to use DVD ripping software.

When you purchase a DVD released in another country, you might have playback issues when playing on a DVD player or Windows PC. This can be solved by ripping those DVDs to video files. In this post, we will check out a tool called WinX DVD Ripper Platinum.

The tool has a simple interface and you don’t need to read any tutorial to start using it.

After loading your DVD, you can choose among popular output formats like MP4, MKV, MOV, FLV, or MP3, and then click on the Run button to start the ripping process.

What I like most about the software is that it can remove DRM protection on Warner Bros., Paramount, and Disney movie discs. Besides, it can deal with 99-title copy protection from those studios.

The ripping speed is quite impressive as compared to other DVD rippers. It supports both CPU and GPU level-3 hardware acceleration by utilizing Intel Hyper-Threading Technology, NVENC, NVIDIA (CUDA), and Intel QSV. The developer said that it can copy a whole DVD in just 5 minutes without affecting the video quality. However, that totally depends on specs of your PC. Most users can rip a DVD in around 10 minutes.

In case you want the best image quality, you can make an ISO/MPEG2 copy as it has uncompressed audio and video. This is the best way to make a backup of your DVD and you can burn it to a DVD later without degrading the quality.

I prefer the WinX DVD Ripper to some free software on the market because it works better with old scratched DVDs, region-locked, 99-title DVDs, and the ripping speed is significantly faster.

The WinX DVD Ripper has a free version but I highly recommend you to purchase the Platinum version. It costs just $29 for a lifetime license key and we have good news for you. At the moment, Digiarty, the developer of this software, is holding a giveaway to celebrate the 9 million download milestone. That means you can head to this page to get the DVD decoder for free. Moreover, participants also have a chance to win an Epson printer during this period.
