Google finally announced the much awaited Google Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 KitKat OS.
Many consumers are waiting for the Android 4.4 KitKat and developers informed the plans of Google in releasing the new mobile software. Android 4.4 KitKat OS update will be rolling out to the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Edition and HTC One Google Edition over the “next few weeks”.
Users will most likely receive a notification on their smartphones for the Over-The-Air installation of the new Android 4.4 KitKat OS.
However, the Android 4.4 KitKat OS update will skip the Galaxy Nexus. The smartphone will no longer receive the upgrade. The Galaxy Nexus runs a Texas Instruments OMAP processor, and TI is no longer in the game anymore. According to reports, it is hard to support a device powered by a chipset that is not really around. The first Nexus smartphone is already two years old. Thus, it could be the time to upgrade your device.
Search engine giant Google introduced the Galaxy Nexus just over 2 years ago that originally runs with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but has since been updated to run Android 4.1, 4.2, and 4.3, respectively. However, that is the end of the line.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus is not as popular as the LG Nexus 4 but the former’s bootlloader is quite easy to unlock and install custom ROMs. Thus, it will not probably be long before developers will build custom ROMs for the device.
Some of the changes that the Android 4.4 KitKat OS brings are new Android interface that includes an updated Phone app, which adds integrated searchable contacts, directories in other Google apps, and even nearby businesses.
There is also the “immersive mode” that will hide all of your other open elements to allow you to focus on the content you are actually using such as when you are watching a movie or reading a book. A revamped Hangouts app will also throw all of your text messages and video calls into the mix, so you are not backing out to find them in another app.
