Facebook is road-testing a VIP app for celebrities
How famous do you think you are? If you’re in any doubt, check to see if you’re one of the few celebrities out there who are in the process of testing a VIP app for Facebook. If you’re not one of them, you might want to call your agent.
Apparently, Facebook is testing a VIP app for celebrities, which allows the more star-studded members of society to monitor comments that are being made about them on the social network.
The thinking behind the app, as reported on AllThingsD, is to allow celebrities to join in conversations about them on the fly. It’s also aimed at encouraging them to share more about their lives – such as posts, photos and videos – with their fans on Facebook.
“We are currently testing some mobile features designed to help public figures interact with their fans,” Facebook told AllThingsD.
“We are testing these features with a small group of partners and will share more details should we roll it out more widely.”
The move could be seen as a way for Facebook to compete with its more nimble competitors such as Twitter, which, along with Instagram seem to be the more popular platforms for celebrities to communicate with their fans online.
