After ending a Cyanogen partnership, OnePlus is going for a back to basics software approach

Not too long ago, OnePlus stopped working with popular ROM creator Cyanogen and announced it would be making its own software for its hardware. OnePlus just released its custom take on Android and is calling it Oxygen OS.

It’s not quite a totally new OS – think stock Android but with a few tweaks to make Oxygen more distinctive. Think customisation options, gesture management and a file manager.

OnePlus says that it’s going back to basics with Oxygen, and focusing on battery and performance.

In a crowded smartphone marketplace, OnePlus is taking a gamble especially considering the strong following Cyanogen has. Still, perhaps having full control over its OS and hardware might be a better deal down the road.
