iPhone 6 Screen Will Be Sharp p-Si LCD

By Tuan Do

According to the Japanese newspaper Nikkan, Sharp will be responsible for manufacturing low temperature polysilicon (p-Si) displays for the iPhone 6. Mass production is expected to start sometime around next spring.

Using the p-Si display could bring some great advantages to the iPhone 6, Apple would be able to make screens with higher resolution than the current Retina Display. Moreover, as the display drivers are build directly onto the glass on top, it will eliminate the TFT section and produce a thinner and lighter LCD display. This also will reduce the number of components, save more space within the iphone 6 and even give us enhanced battery durability with better efficiency.

The Retina Display is the most important factor contributing to the success of iPhone 4, therefore, Apple really wants to make iPhone’s screen stand out. The p-Si LCD technology is once more time expected to help iPhone 6 become another big hit on the smartphone market. The iPhone 6 is rumored to be released in the first half of 2012.
