5 Ways to Find Blog Inspiration Ideas

By Guest Authors

Even the greatest bloggers suffer from dry spells in blog inspiration ideas. Learning how to push through these times separate the great writers from mediocre ones.

“You can’t wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”
– Jack London

Inspiration yields great writing. Without inspiration, passion fails and writing suffers. Whether you blog about dogs or technology, a few everyday things can provide a muse for phenomenal writing. I’ve compiled a list of a few of my favorite ways – some more obvious than others. If you have never used these sources, or if it’s been a while, try to find inspiration through one today.

Blogs

Probably the most obvious and simple way to find inspiration for your blog comes through reading the blogs of others. Find someone in your niche that you admire and respect. Read everything you can. Old posts that you dig into archives for, and the new posts. Don’t simply copy material. Remember, this is your muse. Use what you find as the key to unlocking the expert inside of you. No blog will ever become popular without its own unique personality. Don’t copy inspiration, extract inspiration.

Friends

Some of my greatest ideas came from an interaction with my friends. A good friend challenges our thoughts, stirs up convictions, and enable us to tap into the brilliance in a way unlike any other person can. Whether its a conversation in person, on the phone or through IM, pay attention to those conversations. Let your friends inspire you. What else are they there for?

Nature

You’ve been locked in a dark room for long enough. The words don’t even make sense anymore. No coherent thought can form together. Have you been there? I think most writers can answer affirmatively. In times like these, dust off your tennis shoes and get some fresh air. Go for a walk in the park. Appreciate nature’s beauty. Let it inspire you. Nature has been a rich muse throughout time. The concrete jungle has limited it’s availability, but nature’s inspiring power has not changed.

Writing Journal

Record everything from passing thoughts to dreams. Get a small journal that you can carry with you wherever you go. You don’t have to write in it everyday, but as inspiration strikes, record it. When you are at a loss for blog inspiration ideas, go to it.

Google

It’s ol’ faithful. Hard time finding ideas? Search for the topic you’re trying to find. Google will list hundreds of resources in a matter of seconds.

Use one, two or a combination of these ways to find inspiration for your next blog post. Keep coming back to them for a consistent stream of blog inspiration ideas. Get the inspiration flowing and don’t cut off the supply. Then, even if you find yourself in a dry spell, a well of blog inspiration ideas will keep you through that time.
