iPhone XS Max Model Number A1921, A2101, A2102, A2104 Differences

By Tuan Do

Apple released three new iPhone models in September 2018 and the iPhone XS Max is not only the biggest but also the most expensive of them all. The original price of the phone starts from $1,099 and can go up to $1,449 for higher storage.

The XS Max is considered a record breaker as it features the biggest display on an iPhone, has the most advanced features and processing power, and has the highest price tag ever.

There are a lot of similarities between the iPhone XS and XS Max. They both are powered by A12 Bionic chip – the industry’s first 7nm CPU with 8-core Neural Engine for faster Face ID and advanced camera capabilities like Smart HDR or dynamic depth of field. They have the maximum storage capacity of 512GB, feature the same stainless steel and glass design, notched front display, dual rear camera setup, IP68 water resistant rating, and OLED Super Retina displays.

There are just a few differences, such as the bigger battery on XS Max offering an hour longer than the battery on XS. Another difference is the huge 6.5-inch display on XS Max as compared to 5.8-inch on XS. Besides, although both models feature the Dual SIM Dual Standby technology, the iPhone XS offers a nano-SIM and digital eSIM while a version of the iPhone XS Max can take two nano-SIM cards at the same time. You can find that version in countries where eSIM is not available, such as China.

The iPhone XS Max comes in 4 model numbers, which are A1921, A2101, A2102, and A2104; They differ not only in LTE bands but also in the SIM card architecture. Let’s check out all those differences.

    Hello,
will A2104 work in Japan with Japanese carriers?
I noticed FDD-LTE bands 11,21,28 and TDE-LTE band 42 are present only in the Japanese version A2102 (well A2101 also has FDD-LTE 28).

I have now an A1661 which is working fine on 4G with “au” japanese carrier, however it doesn’t have FDD-LTE bands 11,21 but only 28. TD-LTE band 42 is also missing.

I ordered a 512GB Space Gray MT772CH/A (XS Max A2104) from Expansys in Hong Kong and got a confirmation that my Amex card charge was accepted.

Got a note the following day canceling the order because they wouldn’t ship such a high-value item to my location [Jersey, Channel Islands]. I don’t know the truth about the order but it could be because of misunderstood limitations on sending goods with lithium ion batteries to Jersey.

For those who live in ‘normal’ countries it is certainly worth the effort to get a real dual-SIM phone

    Hi,
I bought a Xs max 512 G (MT762ZA/A) from a local supplier in Taiwan. While setting up my new phone, I couldn’t choose the country and also language input. Looks like this mobile set has been pre factory settings so that i can’t operate or change many settings. I even couldn’t download apps from App store. How can I unlocked the phone and make it freely usable?
Suggestions or guidance will be highly appreciated
    Thank you
